Life after the Teashop...

It seems like an absolute LIFETIME now since I closed the shop.


I have been planning on writing a blog to let everyone know what I'm doing but madly enough I haven't had the time. I have been very busy baking, painting, renovating, doing buffets, having meetings, doing paperwork and generally learning how to live a normal (well as close as possible) life.


I'm guessing it will have come out of the blue to a lot of people that the shop closed as I didn't tell many people about the decision. It wasn't one I made quickly and it was thoroughly thought out for a long time but although I do share a lot in my blogs I am quite a private person and I don't like having to explain myself to people (which is in itself one of my reasons for closing).


Running your own business tends to take over your life and the tea shop certainly did that for me. With it being so customer facing and me being so heavily involved it was hard to have a day off without having to explain myself to someone. 


So for that reason, amongst many others the shop has now been closed for two and a bit months and is already occupied as a Beauticians. So, what have I been doing?  Well many, many things socially, as I have had more time. I've been keeping fit, spending quality time with family and friends and more recently looking after my angel of a puppy.


What I really want to tell you about is what I am doing work wise as I want everyone to know that Sally Shortcake is still very much up and running.


I have changed the direction and focus of the business back to where it was before the shop opened, which is outside catering. We are still very much in business of catering for weddings, christenings, birthdays and funerals and have increased the amount of catering we are doing for local businesses for meetings. 





It's been great having the extra spare time so that I can really concentrate on the food I am creating and menus that we are serving. I've come up with different sandwich fillings, ways of serving things and cakes to add to the platters along with being able to source some new products to add such as gluten free and  vegan alternatives.


I have also been working with Nicola and my cousin Rebecca to create fantastic cake tables for events. I have had more time to work on cake design and have a few new products up my sleeve, so watch this space. You can check out the new Cake Tables page on the website for more info on this.


Most of you know that I am still making scones to order as well as any other cakes, slices and brownies that you may want to order and you can find all these and the prices of them on the webpage  (As you can probably tell I have also ben doing a lot of work updating the website!) 


In addition to all this I have been rolling out daily corporate lunch buffets for local businesses. 


Where am I doing all this work you may be asking? Well, I have a brand spanking new catering kitchen at my residence. So I am fully equipped and ready to take any orders.


In comparison with running the teashop where time seemed to fly by too fast and I never spent any quality time with anyone, these last two months time has slowed down a lot.  I feel I have manged to enjoy things and do more of the things I want to do. I've written a lot about work life balance and now I feel like I am a bit closer to achieving that. I can now be minful about what I do and can be more in the moment and can enjoy the little things in life like having a cup of coffee with friends, going on a walk and actually feel like cooking dinner.


It's been a big change and not an easy one to adjust to but you have to follow your heart and do what you fell is best for you. Lets see what the next few months bring.
